Volker Quaschning Speech

A speech on recent German renewable energy policy (in German). I agree with most of his positions.

Some highlights:

While Germany has had some success introducing renewable sources in the electricity sector, there are also the heating and traffic sectors to worry about. With the present speed of building new capacity it will take far into the next century to get to 100 percent renewable.

The government goals for renewable energy are completely inadequate. The amount for solar auctions is a joke. Even if all bids had been successful, that would still be far less than necessary, as well as far less than built as recently as 2012.

Some people seem to think that renewable energy is expensive. They don’t realize what Germany pays for fossil energy, even not accounting for climate change cost.
