The Heritage Foundation is a large conservative think-tank. One would expect them to deny that global warming is a problem, so their latest blog post discussing climate fiction does not come as a surprise. From the blog post:
Great. Cli-fi is a purveyor of climate change propaganda. However, the sweet irony in the cinematic genre of cli-fi is that the name reveals an underlying truth: The sensationalism surrounding climate change is simply fiction.
This is a problem for anybody writing fiction about global warming for the purpose of warning people. The word fiction implies that you are not telling the truth about everything.
And people on the other side of this debate like the Heritage Foundation will be happy to try exploiting this.
The good news is that there is no need to pay any attention to that argument. If you think that global warming is just one big hoax, reading a novel won’t change your mind in the first place. The audience I have in mind for my novels are not the followers of the Heritage Foundation. It is the large majority of people who know that global warming is a serious problem.
