Good News! Renewable Investment Down in 2013!

Says Sally Bakewell at Bloomberg Renewable.

Why could this possibly be good news? Don’t we need to invest at least 2 percent of global GDP a year in renewable, as to do something about global warming?

Of course we do. Therefore, going from the measly $281 billion of last year, which is only about 0.391 percent of last years $71,830 billion Global GDP to an even less adequate level is the wrong direction.

But the real question will be how much new solar and wind will be installed this year, compared to last year. And with prices dropping faster than anybody can keep track, even falling investment numbers may still mean rising installation records.

And that is the number that counts the most. Everything else equal, getting more capacity with less investment is good news, since it shows that prices are falling even further.
