The Tesla Roadster high grade sports car was sold only 500 times in its first version until 2009, and only 2,500 times until production ceased in 2012.
There were only about 100 delivered to costumers in the first year (2008). And only 500 in all for the first series.
Now have a look at prices for the Jaguar E-type series one right now. They sell for close to 200,000 pounds, which is at present market rates around $300,000. There were 38,419 produced in series one, which is about 384 times the number of Tesla Roadsters delivered in 2008.
Guess which will be more difficult to find in 2023?
The Jaguar E-type is a beautiful car. But in the end, it’s just another gasoline car. In contrast, the Tesla Roadster has made history.
And while a vintage E-type bought in 2023 will still run on gasoline, a vintage Tesla Roadster bought in 2023 will run on 2023 technology batteries, which I would expect to beat technology available in 2008.
Wired reported in October 2012 that used 2008 Tesla Roadsters are selling below $100,000. I think that might change in the future.
There were also 15 (fifteen) units of a “final special edition” produced, the last in the 2,500 produced ever. There will be no price for those available in 2023, since probably no one will want to sell.
