SPD Criticism of Altmaier and Rösler Paper

This post is part of a series discussing a new position paper by German Environment Minister Altmaier and Economy Minister Rösler on reducing cost of the feed-in tariff system.

The opposition SPD has published an answer to the proposals. They are critical of the idea that Germany should default on promises made to investors in the past. That’s good news, since this part of the proposals is most in need of being defeated in the Bundesrat.

But they also show some sympathy for reducing feed-in tariffs for wind (one of the proposals) and for reducing industry special tariffs (another one).

They also point out that the German tax income has risen by about 1 billion euro as a consequence of rising surcharges, which become part of the base for calculating the value added tax for electricity.
