At the Very Least, Desert Countries Will Get Their Own Solar

There is still a lot to do before Europe can import a couple of hundred TWh a year from Northern Africa, and some people are not convinced that Desertec is a good idea in the first place.

But for the very least, the Northern African and Middle East countries will develop some of their vast solar potential for their own use, as well they should.

Case in point is the unfortunately named “Shams1” project, a CSP project in Abu Dhabi that is at 100 MW rather large in scale, covering 2.5 square kilometers. It will start operations next year, says this article at Gulf News.
