2011 CO2 Data from German Think Tank IWR

IWR means “Internationales Wirtschaftsforum Regenerative Energien” (International Economic Forum for Renewable Energy).

They have just published a press release where the calculate world emissions in 2011 as 34.0 billion. And they have a nice graph on the six countries with the most emissions:

Germany is at sixth place and has reduced emissions since 1990. But as is clear from looking at that graph, that doesn’t matter much. The battle for the planet will be fought in China, the United States, and India.

Again, comparing the various ideas about “energy from the desert”, it is important from a strategic point of view for the climate to get a project in the Gobi up to speed fast, since there it can help the most with displacing coal in China.
