Says Professor Peter Wadhams of Cambridge University:
“The extra open water already created by the retreating ice allows bigger waves to be generated by storms, which are sweeping away the surviving ice. It is truly the case that it will be all gone by 2015. The consequences are enormous and represent a huge boost to global warming.”

When I wrote my global warming science fiction novel “Great News” earlier this year, I didn’t expect that to happen so soon. If it does, in a couple of years one of the basic premises of the novel will be gone. There will be not much point left in predicting an ice-free Arctic if that has already happened.
